YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOUR HELP

The majority of QRS committee members are being stretched to the maximum at race meetings.

We are either riders or have riders out there.

Whilst we appreciate that most riders who come to meetings are in the same boat, we are appealing for a little more help.

A simple task on a race day taken care of frees us up to either deal with our main duties or watch our children/family member’s race.

Little things like selling the programmes in the morning allows the sign on crew to concentrate on getting the sign on job done quicker and keeping the queues down.

Chief marshal is not as full on as it sounds either, the list is drawn up before, all that is required is the allocation of marshal points, Marshal signed on official sign on sheet, vest and flags handed out to the marshal, a marshal brief and that’s it until lunch time, a quick check to make sure marshals are back to their post after lunch and that’s it until end of the day, collect the flags and vests in. Job done. Again this frees up the clerk of course and the club secretary.

Timing Equipment:  Assistance with the timing equipment on race days is required.  Surely there are a few technically minded individuals out there who would like to see how it all works and rise to the challenge. Kenny will provide training to any individuals interested in helping out. Even if it’s just for part of the day this would be appreciated. The Club have invested a lot of money in this equipment it would be a shame if we had to revert back to lap scoring.

Any job not matter how small, if you try it once does not mean you need to do it at all rounds, but with more people coming forward and lending a hand the more efficient we as a club will become.  (And the less stressed the committee members will get).

 MERCHANDICE ORDER FORM

Getting ready for the weekend

Postcode reminder for the track  AB54 4HH.  We will do our best to put some signs out especially for those who are going to Rhynie for the first time, as it can be quite easy to drive by the gate to get into the track, which is located on the other side of the hill.

On the weekend, again there are still people who have not volunteered their round to marshal at as we are now short on the Sunday.

QUAD RACING SCOTLAND CLUB NEWS

Just a little note to all, with a few important pieces of information, before our AGM on Sunday 7th March at Bothwell Bridge Hotel.

The club will be introducing a new marshalling schedule this year (let’s hope with rider support this will work)

At the first round @ Duns we will be displaying the marshal requirements for every QRS round.  Riders will choose their preferred round to marshal at.  This will apply to all riders i.e. all riding family members.  If you do not fill in your preferred round then the club will allocate a venue for you.  If all members take their turn this should speed up race days and allow committee members to go about their race day duties.   We will be enforcing the no Marshal no race policy this year.  Any rider just turning up for the odd race will be required to supply a marshal. The sheets will be produced at a set time and it will be on a first come first served basis.

It was decided by the current committee to present the marshal sheets at the agm this weekend to allow those attending the agm and supporting their club first choice.

Debbie Stuart has decided to step down this year from role as treasurer and Yvonne Boyd wishes to assume this role at voting this weekend.  For ease of banking duties we will be adjusting the entry forms to reflect Yvonne’s address.  This will be updated on the website in due course.  All entry forms will now go to Yvonne’s address and not the main club administration address.

On the subject of entry forms, due to the rise in running costs we will this year be increasing the youth entry fee to £25.00.

Hope to see you all at the AGM.

Regards

QRS Team

FEBRUARY 2010 NEWSLETTER

A Very Happy New Year from everybody at QRS – we hope you had a wonderful Festive period and are looking forward to seeing you all very soon.

QRS AGM – Sunday 7th March 2010 2pm

Many of you over the last year have shared your ideas with us about how you feel we could improve the Club and for that we are very grateful but there are still a small minority of us who carry out the huge amount of work it takes to run QRS and provide racing for you in Scotland. As such we desperately need your help in 2010 to ensure QRS grows and strengthens. Don’t be afraid to come forward and volunteer your services – we will provide you with all the training needed to help you help us.

Please find attached details of all Committee positions which need to be filled this year – we really hope you can make it to the AGM which is being held at The Bothwell Bridge Hotel, Bothwell, G71 8EU at 2pm.

Please download a form if you are interested in standing for any of the positions listed, return to the usual address ASAP or simply send an e mail.

We hope you will show support for your Club at the AGM and volunteer to help in whatever small or large way you can – QRS can only have a future if we have more people involved willing to work towards an even more successful 2010!!

EVENT CHANGES

Due to a lack of track availability in April we have now changed round one to Duns and Round 2 will be held at Cardenden.

DATE CHANGE

We at QRS want to encourage and help grow our sport nationally as well as locally.  We are therefore supporting the British Championship again this year.  QRS will be hosting round 2 of the British Youth Championship along with round 5 of the Adult British Championship on the 15th August 2010.  This date was originally to be the QRS/SACU round, THIS WILL NOW BE HELD ON THE SATURDAY 14th AUGUST.  You will of course be more than welcome to stay on and enjoy the British round on the Sunday, if you could lend a hand on the day even better you might even get your face on TV as the day will be televised for Sky Extreme Sports. We would also like to encourage all our Youth riders to enter for the Youth Championship and we will advise how to enter once all details are to hand from the ACU.

2010 Club Championship

There has been a few exciting changes to this year’s Club Championship.

Firstly we have secured a sponsor who has pledged a generous prize fund to the Championship Class.  The QRS Adult Club Champion will receive £1,500 prize money, 2nd place £1,000 and the 3rd place rider will pocket £500.  There will also be hole shot money during the season in the Adult Support Class.

Riders must join the club and be present at the end of season presentation dance to receive there cheque.  Hole shot money will be presented on the day.

2010 MEMBERSHIP

Time is running for all those who have not returned their memberships, the start of the Race season is just around the corner.  Please remember to advise us if you require a race license form and enclose a Stamped address envelope.  The SACU have advised that no One Event License forms will be available this year so remember No License, NO RACE.  We are in the process of printing a Club handbook for our members, which should help with any question you may have about the forthcoming race season.

However in the meantime please keep checking the website for any updates www.quadracingscotland.org.uk or contact us on 01698 374374 or 07766774848.

ROUND ONE

Round one of the SACU/QRS Championship kicked off at Cardenden on the 29th March 2009. No snow this time just glorious sunshine and a very cold wind. The day was a great success and made all the more special with the appearance of John Mitchel, Leon Beda and Irish riders Ricky Toye and Dean Thompson making the trip over, to join in blowing off the winter cobwebs. Full race reports were published in the May edition of Quad Magazine.

BRITISH YOUTH ROUND ONE 19 APRIL DUNS

Quad Racing Scotland this year have also hosted round one of the British youth and Round 2 of the Adult MMX Championship. Again we were blessed with sunshine and entertained with a greats days racing. Quad Racing Scotland would like to thank all those who volunteered there services on the day. Thanks guys and girls your help was much appreciated. ROUND TWO

RHYNIE RUNS AT LAST

Round 2 of the SACU/QRS championship took place at a sunny and rather dusty Rhynie track, two words we haven't had the pleasure of using to describe our days racing there for some time. However so as not to spoil our reputation, the rain did put in a brief appearance, if only it had timed it before we sent the bowser out. The days racing did take a little bit longer than normal to get under way due to the lack of Marshal Cover, which brings us nicely onto to our next important update.

MARSHAL COVER

To date QRS have been reliant on volunteers to cover our rounds and even with our money reward, volunteers have been thin on the ground. A request for outside assistance has gone to the Army Cadets and they are looking into cover for the Duns and Leuchers meetings for us. We have also contacted the Inverness Air Cadets to see if they are available to help out at Ardersier. However it should be stressed that we cannot rely on this alone and therefore QRS will be reverting back to all late entrants will have to supply a marshal. We know this is not our favourite subject, but guys and girls it is hard enough trying to organise and run a race event without the added headache of running around on the day looking for marshals. Marshalling at your race events is not a new thing it is an important part of your racing.

ROUNDS 3 & 4

23rd and 24th May.Venue Ardersier ( http://www.highlandmotox.com/ ) Highland Moto X Club

Please have your entries in for Ardersier by the closing date of Monday 18th May. Most of us will be heading up late Thursday. Round 3 is being sponsored by Mr Rice Chinese restaurant in Inverness and Mr Kam Cheng has also offered a free delivery service back to the track on Saturday night for all orders. There will be menus available at sign on Saturday morning and it would be much appreciated if you could have your orders back to us by presentation.

QUAD MAGAZINE

Quad is eager to grow the Youth scene and so far this year Zoe Neill has submitted two youth reports. So come on all you budding reporters lets have your take on what's happening at your club. If you would like to put in a report we are always happy to help you piece it together and submit it on your behalf. Forward your reports to admin@quadracingscotland.org.uk

29th March 2009
Scottish Quad Racing Championship 2009
report by Rhona Beda

First round of the SACU Scottish and club championships was held at the well prepared Cardenden Track hosted by Quad Racing Scotland.
The bitterly cold day was soon hotted up by some good race action in all races; with dust being whipped up by the cold easterly wind...did I say dust! Yip it was dry and dusty.
After a slightly delayed start to the race program the 50cc class had Arron Swan have a clean sweep of 3 first places with Ben McLeish racing to second place on a shorten track.
The 100cc class had both standard and modified machines running together. In the modified non geared class newly moved up 2008 British mod 50cc winner Ryan McLeish won convincingly on his new steed but Zoe Neill rode very consistently for 2nd place honors’. The geared 100cc it was Murray Graham that showed how much he has improved over the winter and rode pretty much on his own un-hassled by anyone , he had 3 wins out of three races ahead of Taylor Gibb on his KTM powered machine.
Again the blaster mod/standard and Hybrid 250cc were out together which made this a huge line up but some of the unmodified bikes were mixing it with Hybrid 250's. Jamie Swan again one of the many young riders that has moved up and rode extremely well to take top podium and like her younger sister Zoe, Amy Neill rode very consistent to take runner up spot, third was James Frew again like 4th place young man Taylor Boyd were out for their first time on their new steeds having moved up from the 100cc class. The Modified group was simply awesome to watch, these young lads are surely going to to be some of the UK's up and coming racers, Connor Smith rode outstanding and smooth to take not only the top honors’ for his class but also passed and stayed very much in front of the more powerful 250 Hybrids. Mark Hadden and Ross McNair had titanic battles to outdo each other and it was very unfortunate that McNair broke his Axle in the 3rd race which caused him to DNF and stay out of the overalls at the end of the day, but these lads kept spectators and parents on their toes. Blair brown again rode very smooth and mature to take 3rd place overall in this class. Lee Lawton rode quietly and stayed out of trouble to take first place and David Forrest again one of many young riders that have moved up class this year rode sensible in all three Moto’s to take 2nd likewise so did Sinclair to take 3rd. For full youth report see next Month’s May QUAD edition in the youth section.

The Over 40's gave some exciting racing for the spectators that braved the icy cold dry day in the first Moto of the SACU Scottish Quad Championship at Cardenden Moto x track. Iain Neill blasted out the start gates to take the hole shot in race 1 but it was the on forum Bobby Graham that hunted him down and made a pass that stuck for a few laps and Neill came back at graham and the two of them battled it out right up to the chequered flag and I must say it was a photo finish and as a back marker did hinder Neill on the last corner to the flag, it may of been a different result if Neill got his machines' transponder just in front by a millimeter. Race 2 saw John Fleming lead on the first lap before secuming to first of all by Graham and then Iain Neill who had a  mid pack start and this then gave Graham a much easier time  to take the race win. A very determined Neill was not going let graham win the third and Neill lead the field until he made a mistake in although dry and hard packed he just got into the loose 'dust' and he spun the rear end round to then stall the engine, graham took full advantage of this and rode to first place to the flag.
Support Championship class had a large entry and Donald McIver on his Yamaha 450 rode 3 very good races he stayed out of trouble and rode pretty much on his own whilst behind him there were individual pockets of racing all the way down to the last rider on the track. Paul Skinner and Neill Alexander had their own private battles and Scott (Robo) Robertson joined in on the party. This was the  story for all 3 Moto’s.
The Championship class saw some of the British riders come and compete and 'get rid of the winter cobwebs' before their first round of the ACU MMX championship race season kicks off. Team ATV World riders of John Mitchell, Leon Beda and Dean Thomson all had a friendly track time on their spare machines. In Race one Ricky Toye bolted out the gates to take the first race hole shot but by the second jump on the track Beda out jumped him to take the lead as did Mitchell before the end of the first lap and then slotted into 2nd, behind Beda and Mitchell, Toye then had a trouble free third spot with Dean Thomson quietly moving up in front of Kyle Morrison and Andrew Lawton- young Andy debuting in his first Scottish Adult Championship race he had a good tussle with these riders and rode very maturely. Also included in the four way tussle was Richard Telford. In the penultimate lap of the first race Beda hit a problem with a flat tyre and Mitchell cruised home to take honors’ in race one. With Beda holding onto second spot.
Race 2 it was Beda that holeshoted out of the gate and Mitchell again slotting into second, Young Andy Lawton after securing third place had a frightfully awful crash coming off one of the tabletops, this allowed Toye to move up. Beda made a mistake like Iain Neill and spun out the rear end of his quad and Mitchell was trouble free for the second half of the race as he skillfully maneuvered his quad for an another win. The final race for the Champ class was Mitchell out quick from the gates this gave for the first two laps some real action as at one point all three riders of Toye, Mitchell, Beda came out off one of the corners three abreast. Beda on the outside, Toye in the middle and Mitchell in the inside, as we say it 'pure dead brilliant', Beda just got to the jump first and made the move stick followed very closely by Mitchell, 'game on' or it was until half way through the race when Mitchell hit a mechanical problem and dropped out thus in turn gave Beda a cruise home to flag. Again Dean Thomson in a very workman like manner just kept out of trouble and rode consistent as did Toye. Paul Stafford started to operate more efficiently and again Telford he really didn't put a foot wrong through out the whole day.
I on behalf of all of the organising club and parents hope that young Ewan McNair has a speedy recovery after a real nasty fall in the 100cc practice session and young Andy Lawton.

Team ATV World Yamaha Dominate at Scottish Championship Opener

29th March 2009
Scottish Quad Racing Championship 2009
Round One Cardenden

ATV World Yamaha riders John Mitchell, Leon Beda and Dean Thompson battled in a thrilling opening round of the Scottish Quad Championship on Sunday 29th March at the Fife Community Offroad Motorcycle Club track.

With dry weather and a fast track, the dust flew as the racing got underway. It was John Mitchell who got the better of the other riders, finishing first place in race one. Just behind him was his new team mate for 2009 and recently signed to ATV World Yamaha, Leon Beda. Leon has won the QRS Championship an inpressive three times and is currently riding in fine form for the 2009 season. Finishing the first race in fifth place was ATV World’s young star, Dean Thompson.

Race two ended in much the same way with John finishing first, Leon second and Dean in third place.  In race three John suffered a technical problem and was forced to retire. Leon snapped at his chance and took first place finishing first overall on the day. Dean took third place and secured a superb third overall.

The former two time British Champ John Mitchell commented “After a number of weeks off the quad, I didn't know what speed I would have today. Fortunately, I felt comfortable and clearly all the pre season fitness training is paying off.  I feel good for the first round of the British next week and look forward to seeing the new British Championship race bike that team manager Martin Fletcher and the rest of the ATV World crew have developed. I hear it’s pretty quick!”

FEBRUARY QUAD LANDS

The February issue of QUAD Magazine has landed in newsagents with tests of the new Quadzilla RS7: A new 700cc contender for the growing 4x4 enduro class for five and a half grand! You’d better believe it.

Green Lane Law: In part two find out what to do if you discover your route has been deliberately obstructed.

On top of that: There’s quad-trekking in Namibia, part two of Connor Smith’s trip to the ‘States and all the regular stuff and letters plus, of course, the Flying Scotsman. The Pieman – Melton Mowbray’s number-one customer – re-visits his racing roots and urges us to help keep the UK’s quad industry alive.

Add to that Youth Scene – pictures, gossip and reports from mini-quadders across Britain, Quad Club Corner, Where to Ride, A-Z buyer’s guide, Dealer Directory and more!
